What is XML SiteMap?

Post by amyandr06 on Tue Dec 27, 2011 3:46 am

When an internet user is trying to locate specific information they will put a phrase or keyword into the search engine. Search engines send out web crawlers, some call them spiders, to crawl out across the web and find the most pertinent information to meet the request. When these bots come to a new site, if there is a Sitemap they will crawl through the site to see if there is any information worth being displayed on the search engine results page.

One thing an XML Sitemap does for your site is to list aspects of the site which might not otherwise be discovered. The Sitemap contains a list of all the pages on the site and you can see information about each page. This will let the search engines know about some of the specific kinds of content on the site. A Sitemap can also contain information about how often the site is updated and when the next update is scheduled.

Some benefits to having a Sitemap include helping crawlers find their way around a new site, or a site that does not yet have very many external links. It can also help make it more visible if there are not a lot of links within the site. Basically, it makes your site much more visible to search engine crawlers and helps them find the pertinent information on your site. It can then get the information into the hands of your readers, users or potential customers.

An ‘XML sitemap’ is a file that lists all the web page urls associated with a website along with meta data that provides additional information that helps the search engines intelligently index the content gathered by the search ‘bots.’

site map is just like road map, if you have then you can easily go to your destination and more chance to cache all pages of the site.
The XML sitemap protocol is specifically designed for spiders.

Essentially an XML sitemap is just an XML file placed in a directory of a website that contains URLs and some information about those URLs. It helps the spider in fast indexing. Also, The crawler tracks the updates or changes made in the site immediately.

XML Sitemaps

Post by jasminespero on Tue Aug 21, 2012 6:10 am

XML Sitemap is a list of the pages on your website i.e. on one single page you show the structure of your site, its sections, the links between them, etc. Sitemaps make navigating your site easier and having an updated sitemap on your site is good both for your users and for search engines. Sitemaps are an important way of communication with search engines. Creating and submitting a Sitemap helps make sure that Google knows about all the pages on your site, including URLs that may not be discoverable by Google's normal crawling process.

Hi

Site maps are of two types
Html and Xml
Xml sitemaps are usually made for Spider bots for crawling products and pages in organised manner so as to check every upgrade in the website easily.
It is very important to include XML Sitmap.

Thanks
