A Google A Day - I was the first animal to have my complete genome sequenced

I was the first animal to have my complete genome sequenced, and even though my nervous system has only 302 cells, I am helping researchers investigate nerve cell development, nerve cell function and human neurological diseases. What am I?

How to find the answer: Search for [animal with complete genome sequenced] and browse until you find a news report from 1998 showing that the nematode, Caenorhabditis elegans, was the first animal whose genome was completely sequenced.
